PTFE U-packings Now Also Available with 2-mm Rod Diameter

Spring-assisted sealing elements that meet high requirements

Simrit’s Forseal range of PTFE U-packings is a range of piston rod seals and rod seals that can be pressurized on one side, are made of PTFE, and feature metallic pretension springs. PTFE’s all-round properties mean that Forseal U-packings are highly resistant to aggressive media, thermal influences, friction, and wear. These seal rings seal both statically and dynamically at temperatures ranging from minus 200 °C to 260 °C. In the event of thermal expansion, optimum contact pressure is ensured even in those cases where this pressure cannot be generated by system pressure during operation.

Forseal U-packings are used for stroke movement, rotations, and pivoting motions, as well as for purely static sealing solutions. The standard PTFE compound is resistant to hydraulic fluids, oil, water, steam, air, solvents, pharmaceutical materials, food, and all media that do not attack PTFE and stainless steel. A broad range of PTFE compounds and spring materials are available when designing Forseal products for specific applications. This ensures accurate and highly economical adaptation to operating conditions, for example for
• gaseous media
• highly dynamic loads or dry running
• dynamic loads
For special requirements, such as those in the medical technology sector, Simrit has other compounds that can be used to ensure that the seal exactly meets requirements. Possible applications include miniature valves and actuators, and many, many others.

The series is suitable for dynamic applications with pressures of up to 30 MPa and static applications with pressures of up to 120 MPa. Simrit has extended its range of diameters for Forseal products up to 2 mm. This means that for the first time ever, the universal profile of properties for this series is now available in 1-mm increments for diameters ranging from 2mm to 8 mm.

The outstanding chemical and physical properties of PTFE and the mechanical advantages of U-packing technology are now also available for diameters < 8 mm. This means that media resistance, lack of heat sensitivity, and extremely low friction can be used for sealing small shaft diameters.
